What comes with a hike?

To learn more about what Alohound has to offer, visit our Services page.

What are the pick up and drop off time frames?

Pick Up: 7:30 AM - 9:30 AM

Drop Off: 11 AM - 1:30 PM

Please note that hike durations exclude traveling and that timing may change based on travel conditions.

What happens in the event of rain or extreme temperatures?

Rain will normally not defer an Alohound excursion.

However, Alohound reserves the right to cancel a hike if the weather ceases to improve by noon that day. This includes dangerous weather conditions and temperatures above 90°F. Should this be the case, we will attempt to notify all clients as soon as possible and reschedule your dog’s hike for a later date.

How do I get my pup started?

To ensure your pup is a good fit for Alohound, we require a meet and greet with any potential doggie hiker. Contact us via e-mail woof@alohoundhiking.com or call us at (808) 298-1209 to coordinate a time that works best for you and your fur baby!

Please allow 1-2 business days for a reply.

We come to you! The meet and greet includes a walk around your neighborhood. This helps us learn your dog's demeanor on leash and if they require any additional training.

From there we will schedule a trial hike (paid adventure). A trial hike includes socialization with other dogs, hikers, bikers, encounters with horses, wildlife sightings, and everything else that comes with our group services!

The minimum age requirement to be an Alohound dog hiker is 6 months old.

What do I need to provide for my dog's hike?

If no human adult is present, please provide a reliable lock box or have a spare key ready for easy access during pick up and drop off time frames.

Your dog must have a collar on at all times that includes:

  • Dog name
  • Owner's contact information (or microchip number)
  • Up-to-date rabies tag

All dogs are required to be up-to-date on their core vaccinations and medication(s) prior to hiking with Alohound. Core vaccines include: canine parvovirus, distemper, canine hepatitis, and rabies.

Non-core vaccines are given depending on the dog’s exposure risk. These include vaccines against Bordetella bronchiseptica, Borrelia burgdorferi and Leptospira bacteria. For further vaccine guidelines, please consult your veterinarian.

Alohound does not require, but highly recommends that your pup be on monthly heartworm medication and preventative flea/tick prescription.

Does Alohound Hiking offer dog walking or dog sitting services?

No, Alohound is strictly a dog hiking company.

What is Alohound Hiking's holiday policy?

Alohound offers dog hiking services Monday through Friday with the exception of Federal Holidays.

Federal Holidays include: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

What is the cancellation policy

Alohound reserves the right to charge for a full day of hiking if a hiker arrives at your household and no dog is present within the first 15 minutes of arrival.

A $25 cancellation fee will be applied to the next billing cycle for any same-day cancellations.

A cancellation fee is only waived in the event of an emergency or if the hike is canceled by the client 72 hours in advance. We request this specific time window in order to fill your dog’s spot for other dogs on the wait list.

Emergencies include a death, injury to dog, illness of dog, a veterinarian visit, car accident, or a family emergency. Emergencies do not include a last minute trip, if you are home sick, or a scheduling miscommunication.

Alohound reserves the right to cancel a hike if the weather ceases to improve by noon that day. This includes dangerous weather conditions and temperatures above 90°F. Should this be the case, we will attempt to notify all clients as soon as possible and reschedule your dog’s hike for a later date.
